I am a distributor and I need to get a component maufacturer to issue an 8130-3 tag for use on a different type of aircraft.
The maufacturer is hesitent to issue the component with the standard 8130 usually supplied because i told them that the component had been selcted by the aircraft maufacturer engineering as the component they needed. This is not a U.S. type certified aircraft and the aircraft manufacturer is satisfied with the 8130-3 certified for another aircraft.
How should I handle this?
ANSWER: I don’t know the details of your situation, but I am assuming that the component is new. If that is the case, you only need a certificate of conformity (C of C) from the manufacturer. However, neither a C of C nor an FAA Form 8130-3 approves a component for installation on an aircraft. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the installer to determine the eligibility of the part for installation on a specific type of aircraft.
The issuer of an FAA Form 8130-3 is only required to list one of the aircraft types that the component is elibible for, so your aircraft type may not be listed on the form.
